About Gwen

Gwen Headshot

I’m Gwenevaer (Gwen), a Licensed Associate Counselor in Arizona, a National Certified Counselor, and a Certified Youth Mental Health Specialist. I hold a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with an emphasis on Trauma Counseling. My passion is helping children, teens, young adults, and families navigate life’s challenges, whether they involve emotional struggles, behavioral difficulties, or past trauma.

I have experience working with a wide range of challenges, including depression, anxiety, mood disorders, behavioral challenges, ADHD, PTSD, and other trauma-related experiences. I use an eclectic approach to therapy, tailoring my methods to meet each client’s unique needs. I incorporate Expressive Arts Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Play Therapy, and ADHD-focused interventions to create a personalized and effective treatment plan.

Above all, I strive to provide a safe, creative, and supportive space where children, teens, young adults, and families feel encouraged and empowered. As an LGBTQ+ affirming therapist, I welcome and support individuals of all identities, ensuring they feel seen, valued, and accepted. My goal is to help clients build resilience, develop coping skills, and foster emotional well-being in a way that is both engaging and meaningful.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my partner, our dogs, and our horses. Self-care often includes crocheting, reading, journaling, and going for walks. I can often be found outside being active, engaging in a creative activity, or just soaking up the sun!

Mission, Vision, & Vaules

I am committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive space where individuals can find support, empowerment, and healing. With compassion and respect at the core of my practice, I strive to ensure that every client is met with empathy and understanding. My mission is to help individuals navigate life's challenges with strength and resilience, fostering growth, self-discovery, and emotional well-being. I envision a world where mental health support is accessible to all, regardless of background or identity. Through my work, I aim to contribute to a more inclusive and compassionate society.

Types of Sessions

Children (5-12)

Working with children in therapy is all about giving them a safe space to share their feelings and tackle challenges. I often use play and art to help kids express themselves and learn how to handle tough situations. It’s a great way for children to build confidence, and emotional well-being, so they can really shine in their everyday lives. The goal is to help kids understand themselves more and develop healthy tools along the way.

Teens (13-17)

Therapy can benefit teens immensely by providing a supportive, inclusive, and understanding environment. This space allows them to express their thoughts and feelings openly, build emotional growth, and develop resilience. I utilize various therapeutic techniques that help teens to learn coping strategies, improve communication skills, and build self-esteem. The goal is to helping teens navigate the challenges of adolescence with confidence.

Young Adults (18-35)

Therapy for young adults provides a supportive and understanding space to explore the challenges that can arise during this stage of life. Young adulthood often includes navigating identity, relationships, independence, and academic or career stressors. I take a client-centered and eclectic approach, using a variety of therapeutic techniques to support meaningful self-exploration, build coping skills, and strengthen emotional resilience. The goal is to help young adults gain clarity, build confidence, and feel supported as they move through life transitions.

Families

Therapy for families is a collaborative process that focuses on improving communication and resolving conflicts. I work to create a safe environment where family members can express their feelings and concerns openly. By exploring dynamics and patterns in the family unit, I can help families develop healthier relationships and coping strategies. The goal is to help families strengthen their overall bond, foster resilience, and build understanding.

Equine-Assisted Therapy*

Equine-assisted therapy is a non-traditional, supportive, and engaging approach for individuals who may not feel comfortable in traditional therapeutic settings. I work alongside clients using guided, ground-based interactions with horses to support emotional awareness and personal growth. The goal is to offer an alternative therapeutic experience that maintains the same level of safety, structure, and therapeutic support as a traditional therapy setting.
